Engineering & Manufacturing Services

Between our in-house lab and licensed factories, we offer turn-key solutions from concept to production. No job is too small or too large.

Our Capabilities

Sensitronics provides a full range of engineering services including electronic design, production, software engineering, and mechanical design. Between our in-house lab and licensed factories, we can offer turn-key solutions. Whether you need a single prototype or millions of units, we have the expertise and infrastructure to deliver.

Custom Sensor Design

Every application has unique requirements — force range, form factor, substrate, environmental conditions, connector interface. Off-the-shelf sensors rarely fit perfectly. With 48 years of FSR design experience, Sensitronics creates sensors matched precisely to your application.

We design FSRs on rigid, flexible, and elastomeric substrates in single-zone, matrix array, linear, and multi-axis configurations. Our sensor geometries range from sub-centimeter elements to large-area arrays, and our designs accommodate operating temperatures from well below freezing to over 200°F.

The design process typically begins with a conversation about your application's mechanical environment, the force range you need to measure, the spatial resolution required, and your target cost. From there, we produce artwork, select materials, and deliver prototypes — often within weeks.

We've designed custom sensors for automotive seat occupancy detection, musical instrument controllers, prosthetic limb feedback, robotic grippers, industrial process monitoring, consumer electronics, and dozens of other applications across nearly every industry.

Rapid Prototyping

Our in-house lab contains the same screen-printing, lamination, and curing equipment used in production — scaled for fast turnaround on prototype quantities. This means your prototypes are made with production-grade processes, not approximations, so performance data from prototyping carries directly into production.

A typical prototyping cycle runs two to four weeks from finalized design to working sensors in your hands. For urgent timelines, we can often accelerate this. We encourage iterative prototyping — it's common to run two or three design revisions to dial in force range, sensitivity curve, and mechanical integration before committing to production tooling.

Prototyping isn't limited to the sensor element itself. We can prototype complete sensing systems including the sensor, flex circuit interconnect, connector, and signal conditioning electronics — giving you a fully functional assembly to evaluate in your product.

Custom DAQ Electronics

A sensor is only as useful as the electronics that read it. Sensitronics designs and builds data acquisition electronics tailored to your specific sensor configuration — from simple single-channel analog circuits to multi-channel digital systems with onboard processing.

Our DAQ designs include signal conditioning (amplification, filtering, linearization), analog-to-digital conversion, microcontroller-based processing, and communication interfaces (USB, I²C, SPI, UART, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi). We handle both the hardware design and the embedded firmware.

For matrix arrays, we design scanning electronics that read large sensor arrays at high speed while maintaining signal integrity. For applications requiring real-time visualization, we develop companion software that displays force distribution maps, time-series data, and threshold alerts.

We can deliver anything from a reference circuit schematic for your engineering team to a fully packaged, production-ready electronics module. The goal is always to give you a complete, working sensing system — not just a raw sensor element.

Sensor Materials

Sensitronics develops proprietary force-sensing ink formulations and pre-coated sheet materials. These materials are the foundation of every FSR we manufacture, and they're also available independently for customers who want to build sensors into their own production processes.

Our XactFSR line provides pre-coated force-sensing material in sheet form that can be cut to any shape with scissors, a die, or a laser. This allows rapid experimentation and custom sensor fabrication without screen-printing equipment or specialized chemistry knowledge.

For high-volume or specialized applications, we formulate custom ink blends optimized for your specific requirements — target resistance range, force sensitivity curve, temperature stability, substrate adhesion, and environmental durability. Our materials science work is backed by decades of formulation experience and a library of proven compositions.

We also supply conductive and resistive inks, interdigitated electrode substrates, and overlay materials for customers who operate their own screen-printing or coating equipment.

Scalable Production

Sensitronics designs every sensor with manufacturing scalability in mind. The same design that works as a prototype can be produced in quantities from tens to millions without redesign. Our production capabilities span in-house manufacturing for low-to-mid volumes and licensed factory partnerships for high-volume production.

Our manufacturing processes include screen printing, rotary and flatbed die cutting, precision lamination, thermal and UV curing, automated electrical testing, and custom packaging. Every production run includes in-process quality checks and final acceptance testing.

For high-volume programs, we work with ISO 9001:2008-certified manufacturing partners who operate under our process specifications and quality standards. This gives you the cost advantages of high-volume production without compromising the sensor performance established during prototyping.

We support the full production lifecycle — from initial pilot runs and design-for-manufacturing optimization through steady-state production, inventory management, and engineering change orders.

Technology Licensing

For organizations that want to manufacture force-sensing products in-house, Sensitronics offers technology licensing agreements that transfer the knowledge, materials, and processes needed to build FSR-based products in your own facility.

A licensing package can include any combination of: ink formulations and material specifications, electrode artwork and sensor designs, manufacturing process documentation, signal conditioning circuit schematics, embedded firmware and software libraries, and ongoing technical support during your production ramp-up.

Licensing is particularly valuable for companies with established manufacturing operations who want to add force-sensing capability to their product lines, for international organizations that need local production to meet regional sourcing requirements, and for high-volume programs where in-house production offers significant cost or logistical advantages.

We structure licensing agreements to fit your situation — exclusive or non-exclusive, field-of-use restricted or broad, with or without ongoing material supply from Sensitronics.
